Just had a quick look at my recently purchased 4.1, and there appears no quick-n-easy way of removing them. There appears to be plastic shrouds over floor mounting bolts? Not removed the shrouds, so not sure.
I planned on getting a 4.2, but the 4.1 was impossible to ignore at the price. I remember seeing pics of RAV4's on eBay with rear seats folded, and then removed, so I presumed it was a quick process, but I guess those were 4.2's. No biggy, I'll just get the socket set out, if someone can confirm the process?

I seem to remember a grey cloth pull tag for releasing the rears seats on the 3 door .

The grey tags at the rear of the seat is to release the catch to allow them to fold forward. If you want to remove them, then prise off the plastic shroud (if you haven't already} and undo the bolts. Its easy - I took them out of my number 1 RAV but have left them in my number 2 RAV - both 1994 models. Number 3 RAV is a 4.2 2001 model 5 door but looks the same fitting. Number 4 RAV is a 1999 model donating its bodyshell to the mechanics from number 1- aye.... you can do anything with a spanner!!
