Bet your EGR PLAYING UP…….NEED A WEE clean.? But would that cause the abovementioned lumpy gear changes? Or for that matter, would a faulty injector? |

Poor acceleration and "harsh shifting" can potentially be related to shift solenoids (e.g. SLT - google for that). It's an area to consider. It may be giving notice. Google for things like P2716 (a DTC, trouble code). It's possibly not common on a RAV but........
It's not unusual to get multiple warnings related to other systems on the vehicle as the correct/safe functioning of one system is often dependant on another.
Get any stored codes (DTCs) read, to help reduce the guessing game. While the "MIL" may be no longer on or warning messages present, there is often (not always) a past history of previous DTCs stored in the ECU(s). You can certainly see those with more comprehensive diagnostic kit (like Toyota's own "Techstream") rather than say a £20 basic E-OBD code reader.

Ok, the car went into the garage and the fault history was interrogated. Apparently some reference to an injector was displayed. Understand that I wasn't there, and garages don't tend to give you sermon regarding the results. But anyway, as the car is running perfectly normally I was told just to carry on using it. A few weeks ago I inadvertently filled it with petrol. This was properly removed and flushed etc and the car has been running perfectly well apart from 'this' issue. Nonetheless the garage said that it could be some kind of after effect from the petrol event. Anyway the car runs perfectly well I'm just a bit reticent to drive it 'fast'.

OK, so now we have new information. How far was the RAV driven on petrol and was the filter changed subsequent to the drain and flush?

It was driven about 7 miles with petrol in it, although it didn't 'complain' until the last two miles of that, so about two miles very poor running on 'petrol' as it were. It was then professionally roadside emptied of petrol, flushed, etc etc, diesel put in, and a fuel cleaner also put in. The fuel filter was changed a few days after that. And until the high speed event and subsequent dash warning (the subject of this thread), it ran perfectly well, as it does now - again.

You'd have to ask the question whether the lack of 'lubricity' caused any damage to the injection pump during that time of running ?

You must surely be aware that driving a diesel with petrol in it can cause extensive damage ? Which it sounds like you’ve done. 7 miles and/or until it complains is plenty enough to bugger the pump as that pump is lubricated by the diesel fuel. Any remedy’s applied after doing the above are just too late. |

I guess much depends on the diesel to petrol ratio when the tank was filled. I mistakenly did the same as Steve way back and drove about the same distance. From memory I topped up from about a quarter of a tank of remaining diesel. Same process of pumping out, flush, top up and treatment dose followed by a filter change. That was about 90K ago....... |

I miss fuelled my T180. Realised while I was filling and stopped immediately. Pushed the car off the pumps to the nearest clear area and waited for a mate to tow me to a friends garage where we removed the tank. I didn’t drove the car at all …. The tech told me that catastrophic can occur within a very short distance. Pump can be destroyed in little time and the injectors can similarly be affected .. I was lucky I noticed what I was doing so other than loosing the fuel and a couple of hours Labour I got away with it. completely agree with your point about the ratio of petrol. 👍👍 |

Well, it's running perfectly with no adverse signs whatsoever, so I'm just going to carry on and keep an eye out for hiccups etc. Thanks to all for your input.
