Maybe someone knows, or can oblige with a tape measure, would be appreciated. 1/ top to bottom of rear door jam, and 2/ bottom rear door jam to ground. My RAV4.1 (3 door) measures an impressive 105cm and 53cm. Might be closer to 104cm, because the top jam is a few inches forward of the bottom jam, so measured at a small angle.

What do you want to carry in it ? as remembered the back door doesn’t fully open. They use to make a different door check strap to overcome that ....not sure if it’s still available.

I was intrigued to know why you asked the question?
Also regarding other peoples posts, I didn't realise that you could get a longer strap, the current one is a pain in the backside, I guess that the reason is so the spare wheel doesent extend past the side of the car if you open it fully on a busy road. anyone any ideas on where to get a longer one from?
Not that would be a problem for me as I have a righthand drive in France. Ah that is a thought if my theory is correct maybe the strap on a LHD model is longer as it wouldn't be opening into the traffic.

You'd probably want to look for a better price than this: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-GENUINE-TOYOTA-RAV-4-2000-2005-TAILGATE-CHECK-STRAP-CONVERSION-KIT-/114202881784

I think the shorter strap was to allow the offside rear lights to be visible with the door open. Although looking at the photo above I am wondering if that is true!

Yep, That's right, Dave, although In think that the perspective of the photo above doesn't show it. I've fitted the longer strap to ours along with a few strips of reflective red tape down the door edge to keep it visible to approaching traffic at night. You could wire in a flexible red LED strip to the tail lights instead.
