Hi, this is my first post and im after some advice, ive had a Rav 2.2 diesel before and it was a great car, we took up caravaning so i px it for a Mercedes ml, i know not a great move, the merc is costing a fortune on parts and high runing costs, ive seen a Rav4 2011 plate, 67000 miles on the clock 2 litre petrol 6 speed auto and wondered what peoples thoughts were on them, how robust is the petrol engine, i dont do mega miles probably 5 to 7 thousand miles a year and just want to go back to Toyota reliability, any advice is most appreciated,

Hi and welcome to the forum. I have no knowledge of that engine - I read the RAC review of that 2010-2013 version and all seemed good. As a lover of the 4.1 petrol RAV, I found the early engines pretty bomb proof. The 4.2 petrol vvti seemed to have some issues, but fairly minimal. I'm sure one of our 5-door hinge-loving experts will be along soon.

Only thing I can add is a query as to the petrol engined RAV towing capability? What do the reviews say about that?

I have the slightly later Rav a diesel automatic. I would imagine the towing capability is very similar. .
The car your looking at is what we call the 4.3 I have the 4.4 .... Towing capacity on the 4.4 Rav is 2000 Kg for the manual transmission cars and 1800 for the automatic.
I’ve towed 1500 Kg behind my car and I wouldn’t want anymore than that. Whilst I still have 300Kg in hand it’s ........Well not the best towing experience I’ve had.
The petrol cars are thirsty more so in automatic form. With a lot less tourque than a diesel I think it would have to be a fairly light caravan ... Depends of course on how much you tow. If only once or twice yearly or short distance it might be ok. If your towing a lot I wouldn’t bother and that’s for the diesel car.

We are on our 4th 4.2 petrol and apart from a snapped serpentine belt on our first, they have all been ultra reliable. They have all been autos and the drivetrain is sublime. Highly recommended.👍👍

We have an older Rav petrol and apart from west and tear it’s never given us any issues.

It was just as good as the TC box. 👍

I think that it should be AWD ... specifically, the 2.0 Valvematic engine, 7 Speed M-Drive S (CVT) Automatic Gearbox with 4 wheel drive. I don't think that there was a petrol 2WD option at that time but I'm really not sure ...
