Had a go at restoring the headlights today as they were showing tinges of yellowing, so bought the Meguiars kit and I think it has worked really well and took about 45 minutes to do both :TU: Before. After. Before. After. The kit I used.

Used Meguiar's kit before and found it to be really good. I've also now taken to giving the head and tail light lenses a coat of wax whenever I wash the car. It only takes 5 minutes and gives a bit of protection.

Yes Jim we are impressed with the Meguiars kit and have also put wax on the headlights :TU: Next will be the claying which will be next weekend now, should be fun

Following on from Uncle Bobs post and the Bridgestone Dueller tyres i thought i would keep this within our thread. So these are the tyres on No4 Rav at the moment, they are Rapid Ecosavers which is a budget tyre at around £65-£80 and from what i can make out are a summer tyre. They were new on when we had the Rav delivered and they are very quiet, even on the motorway. Mrs P doesn't want to fork out on four new tyres just yet as her journeys are mainly just short ones, but will these tyres be any good in the snow/winter months do you think.? They seem ok in the wet in the summer months so far but what they'll be like in the winter is any ones guess?? Anyone had experience of this brand?

They seem ok in the wet in the summer months so far but what they'll be like in the winter is any ones guess?? Anyone had experience of this brand? They've been around for quite a while. Although I have never used them they are fitted by a lot of dealers. They are Chinese but then even some of the premium brands manufacture in China now on the same production lines as the so-called cheapo tyres. Michelin especially apparently make many of their high performance tyres in PRC. If your Rapids are performing well and wearing OK why would you want to change them? The term "summer tyres" is used here even though they traditionally are the type of tyres that have always been standard fitting in the UK. The terms summer and winter re tyres applies in those European countries where it is usual (often legally required) to switch tyres in Autumn and Spring. "Summer" tyres can lose performance gradually as the temperature falls below 7° but it is an individual choice whether it really gets cold enough in most parts of the UK to warrant switching between summer and winter treads. Conversely if you fit winter tyres and then experience a mild winter, the tyres will not perform as they should and will wear more rapidly than they normally would. 4wd does give you an advantage over 2wd in terms of traction. Winter tyres will give some advantage re stopping distances at low temperatures. All season tyres are a good compromise when it comes time to replace yours.

I used to find it highly amusing to go on some of the upmarket (BMW, MB, Jag) forums and ones like Pistonheads and read the comments about Chinese "ditch finders". These guys swapped their P-Zeros, NCTs, Contis, etc on M5s, M3s, AMGs, XKRs, Type Rs, and other performance cars for what are essentially run of the mill hoops that would normally perform OK on family hatchbacks. Then they write highly critical reviews about how crap the tyres are that probably cost them half or less than the hoops that common sense says they should have fitted in the first place. I often wonder how folk that are that short of smarts accumulated enough money to buy and run their high performance cars. It's horses for courses. The Chinese and Indonesians aren't the only people who sell cheaper tyres. The premium brands often have a cheapo range or a subsidiary selling at lower prices, sometimes the premium brand's previous range of tyres.

Some of the cheaper tyres have a fair few review and the buyers know they have been purchased with cost first in mind, followed by how long they might last .....with little or no reviews it’s a tricky one to assess 🤔

The Saab specialist that I have used for the last 4 years is very jealous of the quality of his work. He even paints the brake calipers as part of the annual service. He did warranty work on my 9-3X and I wouldn't have anybody else service my car. Consequently when he recommended the tyres for the soft top (45 section performance tyres) I didn't hesitate to fit them. Guess what? They're Chinese, Michelin tread pattern and directional. So far they seem to perform just as well as my previous Uniroyals.

Thanks for the replies both :TU: We have had the Duellers on two of the previous Ravs and i did start a thread on the old forum about rear noise on the Blue Rav which had the original Duellers fitted so when they got replaced with new Duellers the noise was a little better but still pretty loud, was it because it was a five door? but these Rapids are very quiet compared to the Duellers so will keep them for the time been and see how they are :TU:
