Alonso must have really ruffled some feathers at Honda HQ from his F1 days...that has now come back to haunt him 🙄

Like all F1 drivers Alonso always had a high opinion of himself.
He is a good driver, but not a great. He's no Hamilton, Senna, Clark or Loeb. Remembered for bringing Schumacher's era to an end, but after that kinda did ok in ok cars but never really set the world on fire. Wings well and truly clipped by a young rookie at Mclaren.
Not sure Honda will lose much sleep.

But I disagree with you about him not being one of the greats, I think he made a lot of bad business decisions. He was never quite in the right place at quite the right time, he should have duked it out with Hamilton at Maclaren instead of playing the prima donna, the F1 paddock is too small a place to upset so many people.

Surely to be a great he needs to be clever/good at everything. Doing deals, building teams, etc. He clearly wasn't, so isn't.
Had plenty of years to lead Ferrari to a championship or 2. Not like they have a limited budget!!

I personally rate Alonso as one of the best drivers of our time and he's often quoted as 'driving the wheels off the car'.. I agree that he's been unfortunate in having been with the wrong team at the wrong time. He couldn't bring fortune to Ferrari but neither has Vettel yet.

Japanese motorcycle and car racing teams have a strong sense of loyalty and respect so if you leave a team to join another you might not easily be able to rejoin the first team. However if the team feels that you have been what they consider to be very disrespectful towards them the chances of being allowed back are usually zero. Mr Alonso is now finding out,( to his cost?) that whilst he could indeed have his private thoughts about Honda he should never have strongly voiced them, even in private. However by allowing himself to be extensively quoted in the media was like signing his own death warrant.

LeClerc will be interesting to watch because it appears Ferrari are building around him. Alonso seems to be spending a lot of time schmoozing Toyota since leaving F1, not a bad decision if you ask me.

I wonder what Honda now think of their ex MotoGP rider Jorge Lorenzo?
"Just weeks after walking away from competition due to ongoing concerns over a back injury, Jorge Lorenzo has announced he will wildcard at MotoGP Catalunya.
Lorenzo spend a torrid season with Honda, unable to get the best from the RC213V as he was in fear of aggravating the injury he sustained at Assen.
Honda allowed the Mallorcan out of his contract with good grace and he has now decided that he is able to race after all.

He must know what he is doing as Honda have form when it comes to drivers/riders who piss them off. He will never ride for them again, that's for sure. 😁
