I found the back door check strap from our 2004 5 door Rav today. Would this be the same fitting on our 2002 3 door? It's not the one that opens fully from later models.  |

It's off a 4.2 so I would guess that it will probably fit yours. AFAIK the rear door fittings were the same on 4.2 and the later 4.2.5.In any event I believe that all UK cars had rear doors that didn't open to 90 degrees in order to not obscure the tail lights. You can fit a US-spec door strap that allows full opening but if you do then you are breaching UK C&U regs and maybe your insurers might get a bit miffed if a claim was made as a result of the lights being obscured.
I'm not certain on the latter point but, given that some insurance companies are crazy enough to disallow things like winter tyres, for example, I wouldn't be one bit surprised.

No Kev this is the one i took off the Blue Rav to replace it with a fully opening one, think I had it off Don, and think it was still working ok, but the one on the Black Rav isn't, well it is but not a very strong hold so will have look over the weekend. Just wanted to know before I strip it all off? |

Well that's what i'd have thought Jim but looking on ebay there are all sorts of different ones, but will have a look over the weekend. Sense that makes Paul.....just paid £50.00 to replace wife’s on her automatic 2006.......CANNOT see the point of replacing with that one that only allows partial openink.

Not really fussed Kev about the rear door opening fully now, just want it to stay open without a bit of wind closing it when parked on a hill  Where did you get yours from? |

I put a long one on so the door fully opens, I also put an LED round light which is also a reflector on the outside edge of the door, it comes on via the normal door switch. Although I do think it's unnecessary as there are loads of vans that obscure the lights when they are open. I've heard the reason before & wonder if it's just an urban myth.

I'm only wanting to change it as the one on isn't that good so am hoping the one off the Blue Rav will be better :yes: or are all the ones that open to 60 degrees no good and don't stay open??
