I'm not at all sure of the real requirements, spec and price guide for this "automatic 3-door RAV" but, unless I already had a cherished and trusted example, I'm not sure that I would want to invest in a car that is over 14 years old as a "reliable daily drive" - my words admittedly. Might a CH-R be a suitable alternative? It appears to be the nearest thing to a 3-door RAV4 that Toyota have made in recent years - it's not far off the size of an earlier RAV4 and, up until recently, came in petrol powered AWD automatic form ... ?

Maybe I am picky but the MOT history on that car is not great and doesn't present a car that has been particularly well looked after. And 7 services in 18 years doesn't comprise a appropriate FSH. It should have one per year alternating between an interim and a full. Also it's hard to tell from the photos but even the DVLA lists it as Silver, Argent Silver if my eyes don't deceive me. I never heard of Titanium Metallic as a Toyota colour. It's an early 4.2 so is at risk to the gearbox ECU problem that Bob mentioned earlier. I will get my anorak now..... No Jim not a very good one but was just an example of what's out there at the moment and the prices they are asking for autos regardless of age, condition, history etc. I understand, Paul, and you're right about the market being lean at present.
Like I say, I tend to be a bit anal about these things. I don't mind paying strong money for a good, straight, well-cared for example because they are great cars (and I speak from some experience, having owned five 4.2s since 2002 and every single one was a peach!) but I get a bit pissed off when you see iffy cars palmed off as prime examples when a simple bit of research and a crap SH can so easily show them to be less than ideal.

Aye Jim it's good to come on here to ask and find things out about the Ravs but those that don't probably end up buying the not so good ones. Our first Rav we bought blind so to speak didn't know anything about em, didn't even know it was four wheel drive till the dealer mentioned it and even he wasn't sure  When I first started looking on Autotrader for an auto for Mrs P there was 3-4 pages of 3 doors and it's wasn't that long ago, and thought the prices were high then, now I think there is just three advertised on there. Prices certainly have gone up.

There is THIS one Kev which you've probably seen but just gives an idea of prices low-ish mileage ones are fetching. I've been keeping an eye out for Mrs P for ages now but as has been said not a lot coming on the market and those that are are snapped up. West country had a low mileage 3 door in a few weeks ago and that was on for just under £8k that went pretty quick. My mates got an 01 3 door auto low mileage that he got for his mother and she loves driving it around, think he paid £800 for it as it needed a bit of work doing which he did so a bargain. I’m trying not to say anything but F.........F..........F..........F

The 3 door Shogun is IMO a fabulous looking and apparently hugely capable car. MUCH nicer than the 3 door Rav...

Funny coincidence. I visited this dealer in late 2016 to look at a Saab 9.3X Sportwagon. Lovely car but with absolutely no service history, so it was no-go. But he seemed to be a good sort.
Nice road trip in darkest, deepest winter. In the Shogun as well so it was a doddle even given the really crap weather at the northern-most end.

As I've said before, the Shogun is a brilliant thing but the 3-dr is a helluva lot bigger than a 3-dr RAV! Also, if you stick to MMC's service schedule, they are horrendously expensive to maintain.
