Engine light

PostPosted by RAVAsher » Sun Aug 06, 2017 1:16 pm

The 4.2 this morning the VSC/TRC and engine light has come on. I’m currently in Brum as my father is critically ill in hospital. It seems to be driving ok and I don’t want to mess around with getting it sorted until I know what’s happening with my dad. Will I be ok to drive it for now and get it sorted later? As is said it seems to be driving fine.

Sorry to hear about your father, Ash :( All the best to him and fingers crossed :friends:

Ref your car, the MIL could be anything from a silly thing that has already cleared itself (but the light stays on until actively cleared) to something serious, so very hard to say. TBH I think you should make a call to the RAC to come out and give you an evaluation and not assume it is ok because it feels ok, as you don't want to be risking leaving yourself stranded.

Ash the whole ABS/VSC system will almost certainly have turned itself off. In that situation, You'll still have normal braking function, but no ABS or anything to try & pull you back into line, should you over-cook it. Would you put money on it being wheel speed sensor/ring related?

All the best to your Dad.

Ash if you get really stuck I will pop over with my Autel Maxidiag and see what we can do. Or you could come here where I have access to tools ?

Ash, hope your Dad is getting good care and making progress to recovery. Also hope that issue with RAV is something simple.

Thank you all for the replies. My brother disconnected the battery and it’s been ok since. I have got RAC and if it comes on again will give them a call before coming home.

Thank you so much for your offer of using your code reader Charlie I really appreciate it and thank you everyone else for wishing my dad a fast recovery. Considering the damage he done his doing really well. Hopefully be out of critical care by the weekend fingers crossed.
