Return of loss of diesel power......

PostPosted by Sliperyjym » Mon May 15, 2017 9:23 pm

So, who's familiar with; going up slight incline, at 2000 rpm, 40mph, leave it too late to drop down to 3rd and you suddenly total loss of power and EML comes on?

You pull over, turn off the engine, count to 10, restart and back to full power with just the EML light on for a couple of journeys.

Thought I'd got over the problem after new fuel filter, air filter, solenoid valves on the fuel pump (SCV's), engine clean with BG244 and finally drowning the turbo and associated area in WD40.

Worst thing is it only happens when I'm driving, girlfriend loves that little fact.

Anybody got any ideas what else I can try? Is it an over sensitive vacuum switch maybe? Is the vacuum valve sticking (despite WD40)?

Any help appreciated.

sounds like the variable geometry vanes in the turbo getting stuck.
sounds similar to a problem i get after driving to work and back for 3-4 months.
its only 2 miles each way,not good for keeping things clean.sure i get error P1251.
a 150 mile trip with bg244 sorts mine out.
but check the codes and see.

We've had some success with BG244 and leaning over and getting some WD40 on that turbo linkage.

Don't forget that fuel filter is first job.

Work mate has just had a P062D fault code show up when his Rav4.3 advised of a 4 wheel drive issue, even though the computer says it's an injector that's gone.

Known issue apparently ?

Update : He's just got the repair quote from Mr T . . £1600 !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Very lucky to have taken out the extended warranty.

EGRs don't usually cause problems on 4.2s. Everything else does when they've had a supermarket diesel diet!

Hi all, apologies for not getting back to everyone.

Father in law fell over and broke his hip, so it's been arsesoles and elbows here.

I only change the fuel filter when I get the 'howl' and we never use supermarket fuel.

Have BG224 on order so will fuel up and douse turbo in WD40 and see what happens.

If I could get I would check all turbo pipes for leaks etc.

Engine code, memory from initial check, was vacuum related.
