I bought some 0w-30 synthetic C3 as oil to top up,I've no idea what what oil Toyota put in as it's not listed on the service paperwork.
I don't even need C3 as my car doesn't have a pointless dpf.

No but you did good because your car does have an EGR and a cat which can also get blocked. All I would say is keep an eye on the oil level because it may well use more than it has with semi synthetic oil.

Thankyou for the advice, I added 0.2 ltr and probably shouldn't of,it was above the max afterwards. But when I checked level before topping up it was midway, so I'm guessing the oil hadn't completely settled in the sump. I had used the car 20mins prior to checking oil.

Just checked mine again, done 800 miles in last month.

It's used just under 1/2 litre in that mileage this time, strange how oil consumption seems to change with different driving styles.
I.e... motorway , consumes more.
Local , stop, start... consumes less.
Lifes too short.

Work to live , Not live to work..

Previous vehicle , 2002 3dr Baleric blue D4D Rav4.
Then 2014 Honda Jazz EX 1.4
Now ,2012 Rav4 XT-R 2.2 D4D.

Maybe the oil gets hotter and vapes off when every thing expands, with a long drive.

Could well do , i also reckon some burns off in the cylinders on long runs.
Just as well i check it every weekend now.

I have what some may consider a 'premium' vehicle in the garage just now and the manual tells me that the engine 'consumes 0.8l of oil per 1000 kilometres' and that it may consume more if new or driven hard for extended periods.
Wonder how many owners of said vehicle model ever read that or bother to check?

With that oil use, is there ever any need to do an oil change? (Serious question there). Filter swap should be enough surely?

In fairness, the actual wording is 'up to 0.8l per 1000 kilometres depending on driving style'. I tend to drive in a mechanically sympathetic style so we shall see........
Best look out for some oil bargains though :Y
