I see they are knocking it out on eBay at £90 for 5 litres but I got it for £30 by buying 2 cases at my local dealer.

Are you sure Don?

From the owners handbook for mine:
1AD-FTV and 2AD-FTV engines with DPF catalytic converter*1, and 2AD-FHV engine
*1: ALA49L-ANFXRW, ALA49L-ANFMRW, ALA49L-ANFGRW, ALA49R-ANFXRW, ALA49R-ANFMRW and ALA49R-ANFGRW models*2
*2: The model code is indicated on the manufacturer’s label. (P. 702)
“Toyota Genuine Motor Oil” is used in your Toyota vehicle. Toyota recommends the use of approved “Toyota Genuine Motor Oil”. Another motor oil of matching quality can also be used.
Oil grade: ACEA C2
NOTICE
Using engine oil other than ACEA C2 may damage the catalytic converter.

Recommended viscosity (SAE):
SAE 0W-30 is filled into your Toyota vehicle at manufacturing, and the best choice for good fuel economy and good starting in cold weather.

I'm pretty sure that my SR180 called for C2 also but that's only from memory now ...

But I'm curious , if my dipstick reading is fine - why would it sound and warn me of low oil?

I can only go by the dipstick reading?

There is a low level sensor in the sump. If it's getting down towards low on the stick which your was and you go found bends or over steep hills there is a chance it could surge away from the sensor and it only takes a second. When the engine is running, a large amount of oil is not in the sump as it's up in the engine doing the rounds so it wouldn't take much to show it low. Now having said that, they can also have a glitch and throw a fault (although that particular one is unusual) but the main thing is, top it up and run it. If it then comes on we can think about a faulty low oil sensor but I really doubt it at this stage. No harm in questioning it though Jamie.

Bought oil yesterday for service.

It's fully synthetic, 5W-30 oil that :-

meets or exceeds the requirements off API SN/CF, ACEA C3

Will that be ok for my 2011 diesel Rav ( i.e C3 rather than C2 ) ?

Checked my oil Saturday, had to top up with a further 3/4 ltr
From 1 month ago.
So approximately 1 1/2 ltr per 1k miles mine is useing.

I'll check it every weekend from now on.

1.5 litres per 1000 miles is way to much.

Hmmm, don’t know. Mine went in fits and starts. It might seem to drink oil then all of a sudden slow right down again. I seem to remember my 2012 having quite an appetite for Mobil 1 fully synthetic, especially on short journeys.

Still a lot of oil young Donald.... Way above qualifying for a replacement lump under the old rules.

My 4.3 would use oil when towing the caravan or when I was giving it pain on the A66 over the Pennines but never as bad as this. The rest of the time it was fine, it had done 85K
Never saw blue smoke but it did seep oil around the sump as the sealant was gone. Never showed as a leak as the under tray caught the few drops.
I changed the oil every 4 to 5K anyway so never bothered about consumption.

If it's got any warranty left I would have it in to the dealers to have it checked as you are using about a third of your oil capacity every 1K miles, can't be right.

I find the whole oil spec for RAV4 overly complicated. Surely the dealer would have 50gallon drums of oil to suit the 2AD regardless of if it has a DPF or not.
I'm guessing the oil suitable for a DPF car would be a higher spec?
I need to buy a litre to keep in the boot as a top up,ive no idea if I need 0-30w or 5-30w semi or full synth acea C3 or whatever.
