Mk1 1994 RAV4 interior light problem

PostPosted by LordMaz » Thu Apr 13, 2017 9:39 pm

Hi I have a problem which I cannot solve? The rear door interior light comes on and door open icon on dash when closed, is setting my alarm off and draining the battery. Where is the switch located so that I can disconnect it as I cannot see any micro switches on the rear door, unlike the 2front doors which have them? Many thanks

:welcome to the club Maz. Do you mean the rear load door or rear passenger door? If you pop into your 'User control panel' and fill in some vehicle details it will help those able to advise.

Just a thought - is the rear door closing tight? If the catch/keeper mechanism is worn it may not keep the door fully shut. Try pushing on the door when shut to see if there is any 'give'. A squirt of WD40 into the lock mechanism may also help if it is dirty in there.

Hi thanks for the reply. It is closing tight and I've tried the WD40 route already?

All that time I had a 4.1 and 4.2 three door I can't remember if the interior light came on when the back door was opened , any guys on here with an early 4.1 have the answer ?
Other thoughts ...has the wiring that goes to the back door split at the hinge point , maybe pull the rubber grommet back and check all is well .

Update .....had a look in the workshop electrical manual for the 4.1 and it says "door lock detector switch" that to me says the switch is part of the internal lock mechanism ....time for you to take the back door card off and take a look inside :s_thumbsup
