Most of the time "too high idle"

PostPosted by Remco » Thu Feb 23, 2017 11:04 pm

So, when my engine is warm, it runs most of the time around 1300rpm and when I tap the gas-throttle the rpm lowers to a more normal 800.
What is wrong here? I'am going to clean the MAF sensor next week when I replace the air filter but will this fix the problem?

Sorry for my bad english... (I have not been paying attention at school :s_blush )

Your English is fine :s_thumbsup
This is not something silly like the gas pedal sticking very slightly is it?

Haha, thanks! The gas pedal is fine, pulling it back with my foot doesn't work either ;-).
My garage replaced the two 02 sensors a week or 2 ago (warranty), the enginelight is off now so thats oke.

Mabybe I have to clean the "Throttle Body Valve" or the "stepper motor" (do you call it like this?) needs to be cleaned ???

If your vehicle has climate control, turn it off and see if that effects it.

No difference by switching AC on/off.
The "steppermotor" I mentioned earlier is the tps (throttle position sensor), is it cleanable or do I just replace it ?

I think the thermostat is the one that causes the problem, it probably isn't opening at all.
Ordered a new one and shall install it soon.

The temperature needs to be right up at normal so this is possible.

My RAV has the same symptoms when cold. Starts at app 1400rpm then steps down in stages to app 900 when normal operating temp reached. Could be to do with heating up the cat as quickly as poss thereby reducing harmful emissions.

As far as mine is concerned the Aircon is always on and the temp set on the Climate control to 20 deg c and on auto.
