Conversion to use E85 Biofuel

PostPosted by widge » Wed Feb 08, 2017 11:55 pm

Hi
I am not a Rav4 owner yet but currently looking at buying a Rav4.2 and possibly running it on E85 Biofuel, I live in France and the price difference is 1.25€ for unleaded and 0.69€ for E85 I know consumption goes up 10-15% but it still works out a lot cheaper.

I have been looking at the UK website autoethanol (sorry its my first post so not allowed to put the actual link in but you can guess what to put around it) .

It is not very expensive for the kit but wondered if anyone had any experience running one on E85?

On a different subject I will be buying the Rav4 in the UK and taking back to France any suggestion on the best place to get LHD headlights?
Cheers
Dave

Welcome to the club.

Don’t know enough about the effects of the fuel or whether you add it to a petrol or diesel vehicle. Sometimes these fuels are OK short term but cause problems later.

Maybe buy the car here and get the headlights off eBay over there.

welcome. :s_howdy

know nothing about E85, but I did look into an LPG conversion when I got my first RAV4.2 and found it was not suitable due to the valves. whether that has any relevance I really don't know or not to your idea :s_scratchhead

Ref Headlights ... also remember the back end ... Foglight will need to be moved from right side over to left side (can't just add a left one as they will not be symmetrical)

Hi
Thank you all for your welcomes and comments, thanks hoovie for the heads up on the fog lights, you are right the LHD version has the fog light above the number plate which is higher than the RHD version. it shouldn't be a big problem to fit one, if the height is a problem I can always just fit a new one as per the LHD version and disconnect the other one.

Back to the original question about the E85 As far as I have read so far there should be no problem with using the fuel, I think the mod you fit is more about adjusting the fuel mixture based on temperature and actual mix of fuel. I will keep looking but unless I find our anything to the contrary it looks like it could be the way to go, I am probably not picking up a vehicle until early next month then run it for a month or so before doing any changes, but if I go ahead I will try to document how it goes.
