(Real) Cars you always wanted but never got

PostPosted by Hoovie » Thu Jan 09, 2014 11:27 pm

Ok.... Sister thread to the Evolution thread.....

What cars did you always fancy or promised yourself but never got :s_sad

Couple of rules though please:

1) "Real" cars only, meaning cars that are genuinely affordable to people who aren't in the mega-rich bracket. Don't have to be brand new of course, so promising yourself a 10 year old 911 is reasonable, but a brand-new 911 is probably out of most people's pocket, for example.

2) Just 3 cars allowed :s_wink

1) Hankered after the Firenza Droopsnoot (maybe not within the "real" definition?) but still would have liked the standard front Vauxhall Firenza/Magnum (the Coupe type with twin headlights like the Capris had)

2) Opel Manta B GT/E Coupe (had to be the Coupe, hatch wouldn't have done it for me)

3) Triumph TR7 Convertible

When I was 13, probably a 3.0 Ford Capri as well as Pans People and a box of Kleenex (maybe 2 boxes).

When I was 17, a Dolomite Sprint in yellow but it must have the overdrive box with the switch on the gear lever.

When I was about 19 I had a ride down Kent in a new Toyota Carina to keep a mate company. This was the Mk1 rwd and he was delivering it to a dealer for a colour swap. It made a tiny crack in the armour of my desire for all things britty leyly - Rover 2000 or 3500, Triumph 2500 PI, and even a Morris Marina if I set my sights a bit nearer to reality than the beat up Minis I ran.

I fancied all sorts of things that I could never have during my early married life but had to be satisfied with very modest cars listed in the RAV thread. Then I got a job that had the potential for a company car and I remember having to justify it to the MD by collating my business mileage in the fleet of Maestro pool cars (one of which I ended up buying). I used to get brochures on Montegos and Sierras and trawl through every single detail of the spec and even have a fantasy list of colours and accessories - seriously, I had all the sums done for the day the MD finally cracked.

Now we have got to an age where most cars are good and I don't really fancy anything other than the RAV SR I own.

Now if I came into big money I would of course have a good time but I don't want a sports car like a Ferrari, Porsch or McClaren as they do nothing for me at all. They would be big saloons (the best looking currently to my eyes is the Jag) or maybe a merc, Lexus or BMW. If I was as super rich as Hoovie is going to make me when we win the lotto it would probably be a Bently. I like some RRs but the owner always seems to sit in the back.

The one car I wanted years ago but my dad said no was a Black Ford Cortina 1600E, with chrome rostyle wheels, he said it was too fast...well compared with Hearld 13/60 I had at the time.
Would have liked a TR6 and a Stag but way out of my price range as a youngster.
The crossroad in life for me was Nissan Silvia turbo or Toyota 2.8 Celica-supra...well it was the Toyota and never looked back but could have been a Nissan man .
Have looked at the early 4.2 Land Cruisers with Tonka toy affection over the years but always come to my senses :s_yes
jaguar XK8 is a lovely car to look at and great sound but could bite badly if it goes wrong.
Funny enough my wanted list has stopped at my Lexus IS300, i can't see any further than that for now, although getting back into Rav4 mode, I getting feelings for another 3 door  ...the shopping list for one would be 2004 or 2005, auto, leather , dealer history, under 60k....am I asking too much :s_biggrin
Past Rav4's owned......
1996 import 3 door RAV4 J type.
2004 XT3 3 door.

Shouldn't have started this thread! Everything I see an update I click on the title and then see that Vauxhall Firenza. I don't know why, but that still appeals to me in looks more then just about any car, normal or supercar :s_omg think I must need therapy :s_empathy (off to eBay now to have a 'browse' )
