No, from memory you should be able to blow one way but not the other. The actual Toyota PDF is marked up wrong which doesn't help.

Particles of metal in the fuel filter according to Malvern Diesels who replaced two injectors for me , could be from the high pressure fuel pump which would be bad news , what do you think Don ?

not to worried about the filter having anything in it at the mo , I know these filters are good quality and should catch most of the crap if changed regular

It's not impossible but fingers crossed it won't be that bad.

afternoon gentlemen

update / changed fuel filter with some some success , engine pulls a bit better and can get over 75 mph no prob !
I still have to have the vsv pipe disconnected from the actuator arm or it wont rev over 2k rpm due to the variable vanes being closed and turbo pressure build up !
have taken both the brown vsv that connects to the map sensor and the black vsv that connects to the turbo actuator off,
tested with 12v to hear them click and tested them with blown air and voltage , seems the vsv's are not getting the signals required to work correctly,
its all head scratching stuff from here on in , i am pretty good with electrics and a wizard with engines but this is frying my nut :s_scratchhead
so thinking this is a case for a specialist in these vsv diagnostics as looking through forums of other vehicles vsv's , they all seem to work differently e'g ......

some close when voltage applied
some work closed when theres no voltage

had the codes cleared today and its now code free, no return after gunning it so guessing its an electrical problem somewhere !

if i had the same vehicle to swap over and try vsv and sensors i would have nailed it the first day , so im now waiting for an opportunity to do just that !!!
when this will happen i dont know so for now its

evening gentlemen

dont know if the main man with the anchor is still about !
any info would be appreciated ?
what do i need to do to get the actuator arm on the turbo to do what it supposed to do
has anyone ever had the same problem with the actuator staying up and not releasing when engine revved / obviously without the variable vanes not sticking as mines free to do what it wants / but sadly its only getting suction to 1 format and not the other
i have given myself 1 more weekend on this or its up for sale = if anyone's interested ???????
HELP !!!
