The difficulties with all of these things who do you believe, it's not just on this, it's just about everything, are they truly independent or funded by the car industry, or even the fuel companies, I think with emissions they need to start with HGV's, Buses & Taxi's, once they are sorted then let's see if air quality in cities gets better before hammering the individual motorist.

I agree. Unfortunately politicians are generally lacking in common sense and, living in their elitist Westminster bubble, have virtually no experience of our real world. We are to blame though because we usually vote for the candidate who we reckon will do the least damage if they get into power - it turns into a race to the bottom. But to be fair, intelligent and talented people avoid politics at any cost.
Turning to the article itself however I do find it a little bit hard to believe that a Disco has lower emissions than a Clio. I'm no scientist so I admit that my view is probably ignorant as hell but I'd want a bit more research into the findings of this self-appointed group before I took their word for anything. It is fortuitous that this comes out just after JLR has suffered its worst financial year's results caused by their reliance on diesel technology as well as downturns in some developing markets such as China. It also seems odd to me that a French manufacturer should turn in such poor results when the French are probably amongst the foremost diesel engineering experts in the motor industry; ditto Ford with the Focus bearing in mind that their diesel technology can trace its lineage back to PSA's through their various manufacturing/development joint ventures on diesel engines over the years.
I admit that I'm an old cynic sometimes but i can't help thinking that the Mail published this by mistake a month earlier than they intended to.
