My Mk3 SR D-CAT 2.2 Auto is like the proverbial s*** off a shovel, but from a standstill the accelerator response is dangerously slow. For example, you're waiting at an island for a chance to enter, there's a gap and you push on the accelerator (as I have done in previous cars for nearly 50 years) and the car kind of waits a second or so before deciding to propel you forwards. It can be dangerous.
Do other owners of this model find the same? Delayed or sluggish acceleration from standstill? I mean, once the car 'takes up' after that second or so, the acceleration and response are just as you would expect.

Sumfink WAY wrong there, such as bowfin’ EGR valve causing such a flat spot, or a nearly gubbered fuel filter, or both, or a massive air leak in turbo hose or faltering turbo. That engine and gearbox on mine were smooth as silk.

Does the engine rev & the car not move or does the engine not rev, what happens if in park or neutral when you rev does the engine pick up immediately

My Mitsubishi does the same, if waiting at bad junction for immediate pull off.
You sit there on the brake pedal , then see the all important gap-ready- floor it, then i get that 1 to 1.5 sec gap before it decides to go. If auto stop and go is enabled it's even worse... So that's turned off.
Turbo torque on my Mitsi is immediate and across the entire rev range and it's petrol. It's almost as if I need my right foot on the accelerator and left on the brake 🤔

The engineering of mine isn't much different, and on mine, the car 'goes' as soon as I lift my foot off the brake - the accelerator is there only to demand "more speed" (as Jeremy might say). The only way I know to introduce a delay of "a second or so" is to engage Hill Start Assist ... could this be the cause?

I know what you mean. Mine was the same and I don’t think there is anything that can be done.

Lots of views, no real commonality.
I was talking to a guy and he says that that model Rav uses a fluid clutch, and that from a standstill there is an inherent lag in the system. When you get going you don't notice this difference or at least so much due to the momentum of the car. He says he just drove the latest Rav and due to not having a fluid clutch it does not have this problem. My problem being symptomatic of fluid clutches on auto vehicles.
Thoughts?

Fluid clutch? I guess you mean a torque converter. I have had 5 RAV autos, both 4.2 and 4.3 and never experienced the problem you mention. I have heard of it on some VAG cars with the DSG transmission, though, and it appears to be inherent in their design. Is this something that has started recently or has the car always behaved this way? If it is new then something has happened to cause it.

It’s not a view, it’s a fact.

Never knew yours had that flatspot.....? Mibeez chip kit changed all....? Don’t think so Kev but whether you find it depends on how you drive. There is a junction on top of a hill on the way home from work and because of the incline and a slight bend you get about 3 nanoseconds view of a car hoofing it up the way. There have been several times when I’ve floored it out only to have a near heart attack because it seemed like the lag took forever. It’s a wonder I didn’t cause an accident doing it. I think it was standard issue designed to stop you wrenching the engine out but it was too long. This Mazda is much better.

Nobody has yet answered the question, does the engine rev but the car not move, or is the delay in the engine revving?
